Biathlon Alberta is adding a Non-Binary (NB) category to all races in the 2022-2023 Calforex Cup series beginning in November.

“We believe all people should have access to the experience of racing and enjoying our great sport, no matter their gender,” says Elmar Heger, General Manager of Biathlon Alberta. “It’s important to us to live the value of inclusion and that means standing by the belief our sport is for everyone.”

Biathlon Alberta joins a growing number of sport organizations adding a Non-Binary category to racing, ensuring people of all genders have the ability to participate. The Non-Binary Sport category is open to athletes 17 years and older.

“Adding a Non-Binary category is directly aligned with Biathlon Alberta’s long-term strategy and specifically with our core values, one of which is to promote an inclusive and safe sport environment for all,” says Clayton Paradis, President of Biathlon Alberta. “I’m extremely proud of our board and clubs for supporting this initiative and I’m excited to see all our athletes training and getting ready for competition again for the new season.”

The 2022-2023 season is just around the corner with events poised to begin on November 26 & 27, 2022 with the first Calforex Cup in Canmore followed by 10 more race days throughout Alberta.
