Richard Boruta’s sudden passing in August 2017 shocked the biathlon community. He was a family man, respected world-class coach and builder of biathlon throughout Canada. His work-ethic and incredible passion for life was infectious to all those with who he came into contact. The “Jupi Award,” which is roughly translated as “awesome” in Czech, is intended to recognize a young athlete who personifies these same traits in their pursuit of excellence in biathlon.

A group of Richard Boruta’s athletes came together to create an annual award that will benefit two developing Biathlon Alberta athlete and pay tribute to the late coach’s memory. The award that will be presented to one female and one male athlete at this weekend’s Calforex Cup #2.

We received over 30 applications in total and Biathlon Alberta congratulates Antija Quintilio and Levi Barrenechea to being selected as the 2022 Jupi Award winner! Congratulations!
