A group of former BATC Head Coach, Richard Boruta’s, athletes have come together to create an annual award to remember their late coach. A minimum of $1,500 ($750 male/ $750 female) will benefit two developing Biathlon Alberta athletes and pay tribute to Richard’s memory.
Boruta’s sudden passing in August 2017 shocked the biathlon community. He was a family man, a respected world-class coach and a builder of biathlon throughout Canada. His work ethic and incredible passion for life were infectious to all those with whom he came into contact. The “Jupi Award,” which is roughly translated as “awesome” in Czech, is intended to recognize a young athlete who personifies these same traits in their pursuit of excellence in biathlon.
