“Jupi Award” Launched as a Tribute to the late Coach, Richard Boruta

July 4, 2018
CALGARY, Alta. — A group of Richard Boruta’s former athletes have come together to create an annual award valued at $3,000 that will benefit a developing Biathlon Alberta athlete and pay tribute to the late coach’s memory.
Boruta’s sudden passing in August, 2017 shocked the biathlon community. He was a family man, respected world-class coach and builder of biathlon throughout Canada.
His worth-ethic and incredible passion for life was infectious to all those who he came into contact with. The “Jupi Award,” which is roughly translated as “awesome” in Czech, is intended to recognize a young athlete who personifies these same traits in their pursuit of excellence in biathlon.

  • Submit a maximum of 500 words on your future plans in Biathlon
